Reflecting on a Year in the Cookie Biz

Even though it hasn't officially been a year yet, we thought it appropriate to just take a minute to first off revive this blog with a new post while also reflecting on our first year with a home cookie business. We can start off by saying, it's been an incredible adventure so far. We've met a lot of new people, learned a ton of new cookie techniques, and gained the invaluable experience of figuring everything out on our own, business-wise.

Just a few short months into our cookie adventure, we made the big decision to relocate to our home state of New York from Florida, unsure of what this would mean for our cookie business. Different state laws, taxes, clientele, just to name a few. What we were sure of, however, was our commitment to the success of our business, and our commitment to each other. Sure enough, we were able to tackle every curveball that came our way. If nothing else, we learned that when there's passion and commitment on the mind, success isn't far behind.

From learning how to photograph cookies, discovering new decorating styles and techniques (airbrush, roundhouse, transfers...the list goes on and on), to figuring out how to package and ship our cookies safely, we are certainly more educated when it comes to our new industry. While there has been a lot learned, we both know how much more we still have to master.

So as we get ready to close the door on Year One of The Sweet Life Cookie Co, we eagerly look towards Year 2 with excitement (ok, and a few goals...). First, we'd love to increase the volume of cookies we sell. Meaning we'd like to have some classic, standard items on our site that can be purchased anytime. Simple, all-season cookies to enjoy just because. Currently we are experimenting with this, but at this point we are mostly doing custom orders. In the same vein, we'd also love to add an online store to our website so we can receive payments direct through our site. We are still working out the logistics of this, but it's coming. We are also thinking about getting into some local farmers markets for some additional exposure. Some of our more lofty goals include making (and selling!) our own cookie cutters with a 3D printer and travelling across the country to an upcoming cookie expo! Cookiers can dream, right?!

Lastly, we just want to say thank you to everyone that has supported us through this exciting new chapter of our lives. It's one thing to believe in yourself, but it is most certainly another to have a whole gaggle of people behind us voicing their support and confidence. We are so grateful to have the people that we do in our lives, the type who are invested in our happiness and success. We are so grateful for our small little cookie company, and we truly can't wait to experience everything that year two has to offer.
