The world of iced sugar cookie photography is far more cutthroat and complex than I'd ever imagined when we set out on this journey. At first, we had no real consistency to our photos. In fact, my initial thought was to design each background and photo collection unique to each cookie set. The plan was to order patterned/styled adhesive contact paper and poster board from amazon, then adhere the contact paper to the poster board so that we'd have a multitude of backgrounds to photograph our cookies with. In practicality, the idea was sound, but we ended up choosing just one of our home-made poster board backgrounds for displaying all our option’s photos. If you look at the images below from our instagram, you will see our (my) lack of cohesion in the beginning with our initial photos.
It was kinda like I was trying to channel my inner fashion photographer for the SI Swimsuit Edition; basically over-doing everything, resulting in a lack of consistency in our earlier works. All said and done, trial and error is the best lesson to take away from this post; try out different things, but aim to settle on an overall theme consistent with your brand. Once we established our brand, we established a consistency for our photos, which I believe is important to our overall aesthetic and identity. See below for a collection of our photos post-brand photo cohesion.
Once we had this established to pair with our new logo and even newer website, I knew it was very important to compliment those with content that enhanced our iced sugar cookies without trying to steal the show. So I set out to incorporate our logo, font, colors, and overall branding into our photos and new video content.
We're just getting started, but already we are excited for the future. We are able to craft stories, reels, and posts for our social media accounts with our brand identity in mind. Below are 3 examples of tying in other forms of content to our overall brand aesthetic through consistent video advertising:
The videos above were created using Mojo and Photoshop Express. We feel that this enhances our presence in the industry across social media, which hopefully will lead us to more sales. Check out our full video collection for inspiration to help order your very own custom iced sugar cookies! Next blog we will focus on the floating cookie photo technique.
PS:
